After four years of supporting learning among national education coalitions, a new study reveals that civil society organisations (CSOs) in West & Central Africa have emerged stronger and better equipped to engage in education sector planning, advocacy, and policy dialogue.

This new publication provides an overview of various social accountability mechanisms implemented by five civil society alliances supported by Education Out Loud, along with detailed descriptions of practices, mechanisms, and tools established that can inspire or be replicated by others working on education advocacy.

Social accountability encourages citizens and civil society to engage in holding public institutions responsible for their actions. The Institute of Informatics and Development (IID), Bangladesh has created a social accountability model based on its 3i principles: Inquire, Inform, and Involve, which promotes an informed, inclusive, and democratic society.

Key issues include an inadequate education budget, resulting in insufficient resources for teachers, infrastructure, and learning materials. CYAN is working to address these challenges and to fight for better education and improved quality in the schools.
