Strengthening educational inclusion in Mauritania

The two-year project includes activities to strengthen the coalition's operational capacities and database, as well as advocacy activities aimed at decision-makers in favour of inclusive and quality education for all, and monitoring and evaluation activities for the implementation of MDG 4.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to improving the inclusiveness of education in Mauritania by the end of 2023. Its specific objectives are:

  • To strengthen the operational capacity and database of the education coalition by the end of 2023. Technical capacity will be strengthened through the updating and improvement of the administrative, accounting and financial procedures manual, and the development of a strategic plan and a resource mobilisation plan. The education database will be strengthened through the collection and analysis of annual regional education data;
  • Sensitise policy makers and parliament on issues related to inclusive quality education through advocacy activities. The advocacy workshops will focus, respectively, on mainstreaming more inclusiveness in public education strategies and on the annual celebration of two important global events: the Global Action Week for Education (GAWEE) and the World Day of Disabled Persons. These celebrations will be the occasion for intense advocacy campaigns for inclusive education, including on specific themes chosen each year;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the 2030 Agenda at national level, and in particular of MDG 4, through three activities: The elaboration of an alternative report on MDG 4 taking into account the impact of COVID-19 on education, especially on the enrolment of the most vulnerable groups;
  • Monitoring the education budget to determine its level of sensitivity to inclusion;
  • The participation of the coalition in the annual events organised by the Global Partnership for Education and its affiliated regional and global coalitions, so that it remains informed of the developments in this framework and can exchange with other Civil Society Organisations.

The main beneficiaries of the project are: The member organisations of the coalition, of which there are 20 in the capital, more than half of which are managed by women or people with disabilities; Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), members of the coalition, and other civil society actors in the 15 regions of the country; The 15 members of the coalition's board of directors, including 7 women and 3 people with disabilities; The 7 members of the coalition's secretariat, including 2 women.

An earlier phase of the project was implemented in 2020-2021 with support from Education Out Loud.
