Strengthen engagement in inclusive and gender responsive education policy
The National Education Coalition (NEC) of Tanzania, Tanzania Education Network/Mtandao wa Elimu Tanzaia (TEN/MET) is through this project engaged in policy development, implementation, and monitoring of national education policies to be gender responsive and inclusive, and ultimately works to ensure inclusive quality education for all.
The project objectives can be divided in three parts:

Advocating for increased budget allocation for the education sector so it reflects global benchmarks.

Increasing TEN/MET and its members capacity to participate and strategically influence planning, implementation, and monitoring of education policies by 2026.

Increase TEN/MET members engagement in policy dialogues as well as their advocacy for inclusive quality education.
The project will further establish partnerships with the government, development partners, communities, and other stakeholders to promote policy and practices in favour of gender responsive and inclusive quality education in Tanzania. The project is a continuation of the previous project phase, implemented between April 2022 – December 2023, and will build on the efforts and relations already created.
Key activities that TEN/MET will carry out in collaboration with its members include:

Facilitating participation of NEC members and secretariat in national and international education forums, such as the International Day of the Girl Child and Annual Civil Society Forums.

Optimising members’ participation in the Global Action Week for Education campaigns for 2024 - 2026.

Organising an international quality education conference for wider discussion on provision of quality inclusive education.

Conducting meetings for TEN/MET members to share the Joint Education Sector Review Deliberations that will be used for monitoring inclusive education policies.

Conducting biannual project review meetings to oversee the progress of the project.

Engage with Tanzania Teachers Union to advocate for improved teacher workforce planning and management.
The project is based on the theory that enhanced quality of education and effective implementation of SDG4 will only be successful if there is a constant and effective engagement of CSOs working in the education sector in partnership with the government, development partners, academia, and local communities. Therefore, a main part of the project is engaging the civil society in organised efforts to better the education system. By coming together and being part of a collective change agent, the bargaining power and influence of decisions will be increased, and all together bring about sustainable change.
TEN/MET has for the past two decades promoted the agenda of inclusive quality education in Tanzania. The influencing work has already been successful, and TEN/MET has brought together education actors in the country. TEN/MET’s work is underpinned by mainstreaming participatory practices. All capacity development, training, meetings, and forums use participatory principles tried and tested by the coalition members and partners, to build knowledge as a starting point for action, advocacy, and campaigns.
