Studies & Research

By the Global Learning Partner, Accountability Research Centre:

  • The Role of Civil Society in National Education Policy in the Global South: an accountability brief
The Brief reflects on the diverse ways that civic action shapes education policy, from the work of CSOs and youth-led organizations to hold governments accountable for making progress towards education for all, to the growing influence of right-wing and corporate-backed movements. The brief presents three takeaways on experiences of civil society engagement in national education policy, spotlighting areas for further exploration and reflection.
  • The role of civil society in national education policy in the global South: an annotated bibliography
The annotated bibliography covers over 315 references and abstracts spanning the literature on the role of civil society in national education policy and identifying major themes such as governance and accountability, social and gender inequality, information-based advocacy and curricular reform, conflict, climate change and COVID-19, among others.
  • Civil society and education policy: a literature review
The literature review offers an analytical overview of the role played by civil society in national education policy, takes stock of the evidence about how civic action has shaped education policy in the past, and looks at the possible impacts on national education policymaking should the space for civil society advocacy on education be restricted in the future.
