Some examples of learning activities in EOL apart from the mentioned Learning Collaboratives that meet regularly (non-exhaustive list):

  • Institute of Development Studies (IDS) Action Research: Advocacy in Fragile Contexts.
    EOL grantees engaged in action research and participants share experiences and learnings on how to influence education policy and planning in contexts challenged by conflict, fragility and shrinking space.
  • International Institute for Education Planning (UNESCO-IIEO): EOL learning initiatives with reference and materials from online courses and webinars in English and in French.
    IIEP has custom made learning processes for EOL grantees in order to strengthen transparency and accountability in education, including promotion of the use of open data and open government in education planning.        
  • MDF&ACER: Action and Policy Influencing (API) course modules on Learning Hub platform of Global Campaign for Education. Through a targeted learning process with three EOL grantees, MDF&ACER have developed online learning modules on how civil society can strengthen their advocacy and policy influencing skills.

  • The Role of Civil Society in National Education Policy in the Global South: an accountability brief
    The Brief reflects on the diverse ways that civic action shapes education policy, from the work of CSOs and youth-led organizations to hold governments accountable for making progress towards education for all, to the growing influence of right-wing and corporate-backed movements. The brief presents three takeaways on experiences of civil society engagement in national education policy, spotlighting areas for further exploration and reflection.  
  • The role of civil society in national education policy in the global South: an annotated bibliography
    The annotated bibliography covers over 315 references and abstracts spanning the literature on the role of civil society in national education policy and identifying major themes such as governance and accountability, social and gender inequality, information-based advocacy and curricular reform, conflict, climate change and COVID-19, among others. 
  • Civil society and education policy: a literature review
    The literature review offers an analytical overview of the role played by civil society in national education policy, takes stock of the evidence about how civic action has shaped education policy in the past, and looks at the possible impacts on national education policymaking should the space for civil society advocacy on education be restricted in the future.
